So you’re in planning mode but you’re not quite sure what you want to teach this year.
You want it to be Islamically, socially, and academically relevant but you have no idea where to start.
Whether you’re following a set curriculum, or you’re curating your own resources, I want to give you 3 main objectives you should have for any lesson or topic you teach.
In this video, I’m going help you decide what to focus on when teaching any topic to Muslim children, so that by the end of the year you can say to yourself… “Wow we made a lot of progress and we have really grown in knowledge and deed“!
Education should be about progress and developing the child academically, socially, and spiritually.
I know everyone has their own philosophy, but I don’t think the goal of education, when it comes to us as Muslims, should be about having fun, or creating love for the learning, or exploring interesting topics just for the sake of gaining information on that topic.
These are all great by-products, but they should not be the main objective!
Let me explain…
We believe we are put on earth for a purpose – to worship Allah and to establish justice through His divine commandments. That’s our ultimate goal in this world.
Our goal in life is not to simply have knowledge, but to have knowledge that we act on or use to get us closer to our ultimate purpose in this dunya.
3 Objectives for Teaching
Knowledge or education should either enhance the learner’s worship or make us contributing citizens of humanity.
When you plan your topics this year, plan with the intention of fulfilling this purpose. How you ask…
Focus on these 3 objectives in your lesson:
- Enhancing Islamic identity
- Developing an important academic or life skill
- Inspiring righteous action
These objectives can be integrated into virtually any topic! Watch the following video to see how.
